We throw the word hospitality around a great deal in the travel industry. Hotels claim it. Restaurants promise it. Airlines announce it before every flight.
But the real thing — the genuine, unhurried, human version of it — is rarer than any of them would have you believe.
After more than twenty years working inside the hospitality industry at the highest levels, I have seen it done brilliantly and I have seen it fail spectacularly. And I have come to believe one thing above everything else: true hospitality is never about the thread count, the menu, or the view. It is about the human being standing on the other side of your experience — and whether they genuinely, instinctively want you to feel welcome.
