Hotel Fetiche - Benidorm, Spain
Hotel Fetiche — Benidorm, Spain
Old Quarter, Benidorm, Costa Blanca
Let's address the elephant in the room first: Benidorm. You are either going to love it or hate it — and honestly, that's part of its charm. It is loud, unapologetic, gloriously chaotic, and unlike anywhere else on the Spanish coast. But tucked into the heart of its historic Old Quarter, there is a little hotel that operates on an entirely different frequency. That hotel is Fetiche.
Completely rehabilitated in 2010 and converted into a charming boutique property with just 17 rooms, Hotel Fetiche surprises at every turn. Its walls carry the history of Benidorm itself — adorned with dozens of vintage photographs from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, donated by beloved local photographer Francisco Pérez Bayona. The result is a hotel with genuine personality — whimsical, layered and completely its own thing. You won't find corporate beige here.
We were fortunate enough to be placed in the penthouse room — a generously large space that felt worlds away from the compact quarters you might expect at a boutique property of this size. The room breathed. The views were actually okay too. We could see para-sailors floating through the sky, right outside our window!
Rooms feature hardwood floors, white walls, air conditioning, a safe and a scant minibar and we were pleased to find a proper coffee and tea maker — a small but meaningful touch that speaks to a hotel that understands how a guest actually begins their day.
Now, the Silver Classic Standard demands full transparency and there were two things worth noting. First, tucked among the room information was a detailed retail price list — a itemized breakdown of every fixture, fitting and furnishing, along with the cost you'd be charged should any of it be broken or damaged. It was a long list. Not exactly the warmest piece of reading material to find on arrival and it did give us a brief pause. We understood it — this is Benidorm, after all, and the hotel has clearly learned some lessons the hard way — but it wasn't the coziest of welcomes. Second, the continental breakfast, while a genuinely appreciated included offering, leans toward the predictable. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. It does the job and the price is right.
What more than compensated for both was Jaime at the front desk. Cheery, helpful and genuinely engaging from the moment we walked in, Jaime is exactly the kind of hospitality professional who elevates a property beyond its star rating. The staff at Fetiche consistently earn high praise and it is easy to understand why — nothing ever feels like too much trouble.
Positioned just steps from both Levante and Poniente Beaches and surrounded by Benidorm's best Old Quarter restaurants and shops, the location is as good as it gets in this city.
The Verdict? Hotel Fetiche is a whimsical, characterful little gem in the heart of one of Spain's most polarizing destinations. The penthouse is a genuine treat, Jaime is a delight and the hotel's personality far outpaces its size. Go in with open eyes, embrace the Benidorm energy and let Fetiche be your stylish refuge from the beautiful madness just outside its doors.
Benidorm — you'll love it or hate it. But it's absolutely worth the try. And if you go, make it Fetiche.
