The Vinyl Room – Beacon, NY

Before we moved from Beacon, The Vinyl Room was one of our favorite spots, and it remains well worth a visit — for the drinks, the atmosphere, and a little slice of Beacon history.

The bar occupies the old Nichols Hardware building on Main Street, and the owners have honored that heritage nicely: keep an eye out for the vintage signs from Nichols Hardware and Schuman's Army & Navy Store still hanging inside. It's a fitting home for a place that's all about nostalgia. The concept itself started back in 2017 in Wappingers Falls as a record shop and taproom hybrid, and after a couple of moves, it landed in this permanent Main Street location — bigger and better than ever.

The space has a fantastic retro feel, with eclectic musical artist art covering the walls and a DJ spinning actual vinyl records to complete the vibe. There's even a mini record shop where you can dig through the bins. Head downstairs and you'll find a speakeasy-style arcade stocked with video games from yesteryear — you'll get a kick out of reminiscing over the classics. And don't miss the cute little nook in the back, a surprise spot that's perfect for small groups or a bit of privacy.

The cocktails are the star here. They make a fabulous Paloma, and the margaritas on the rocks are excellent. This is a perfect spot for afternoon drinks, especially in warm weather when you can sit outside and watch Main Street go by.

A few things to know before you go: The Vinyl Room has hosted television filming crews (it was even featured on Netflix's "The Four Seasons") and is known for its popular weekend dance parties. For our group, though, I'd steer clear of those nights — it gets awfully packed and the music is loud and very progressive. Unless that's your scene! A relaxed afternoon visit is the way to go.

The food menu has changed a few times over the years. What we've had was basically bar food — nothing to write home about, but if you're looking for a little nosh to go with your cocktails, it will do just fine. Maybe, on our next visit, we will have to order from the menu again and see if TVR can gain back that 1/2 star!

What truly sets The Vinyl Room apart, though, is the people. The bartenders and servers are as friendly and accommodating as they come — always quick with a smile, happy to make a recommendation, and attentive without hovering. The owners are often on hand as well, and they clearly take pride in the place, treating regulars and first-timers alike as welcome guests. It's the kind of warm, personal hospitality that keeps you coming back.

Silver Classic Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5 out of 5 — half a star withheld only for the menu). Skip the weekend crowds, go on a warm afternoon, order a Paloma, sit outside, and soak up the throwback charm of a true Main Street landmark.
